Demuro, I'm sorry if you're reading this, but I have zero inclination to read your latest piece.
Don't get me wrong, I love everything you write. I even bought your book to read while on the toilet (don't take that the wrong way, it's a compliment).
The reason why I have no interest in the latest post is because of the horribly condescending and arrogant Lexus ads that have unfortunately been posted on Jalopnik recently. I've never have been so turned off by a company that I refuse to read an unpaid review of their materials. I simply don't care.
Is it a coincidence that Doug reviews a Lexus, Zac shows a teaser of a (possibly) new Lexus, and the Lexus ads are plastered all over the FP all in the same day?
Maybe.
But who knows?
I know this issue has been previously addressed, but I'm really salty about it. That is all.

I can't be a hypocrite and say I hate Lexus but also love the LFA...
But I love the LFA.

I would respect those paid ads more if the comments sections for them weren't closed.
The car companies should be willing to get all the feedback. Sure a lot of it will be from trolls. But some of it will be useful feedback to them, even some of the troll comments.
If they let us comment then they'd realize their ads are dumb and be able adjust them. Closing off the public ensures they don't get any real world feedback. They probably have a bunch of yes men and women in their marketing departments that tell the Director that everything he/she does is gold.

Or you could just go to http://dougdemuro.jalopnik.com/
I don't see any Lexus ad there.

It sounds of sounds of beautiful and is pretty but is a beast of nightmares and makes Ferraris have bad dreams and the Yamaha built engine o be still my heart.

The comments on the most recent one are open and full of people calling out the shitty ads.

Pure coincidence... don't be salty! A few weeks back I had an AMG station wagon... we didn't run any M-B ads that week (apparently), so no one said anything. This happened to be a coincidence today! The press car people come by with a new car each week, and it's largely at random. I had three good stories I wanted to tell Monday Tuesday and Wednesday so this got booted to today... just how it happened!

Have Toyota and Yamaha teamed up together on an engine that wasn't awesome? I can't think of a single one, going back to the 2T-G.

Awesome! I didn't check that one. I had checked some of the previous ones and the comments were closed.

Not salty with you, Doug, just with Lexus. The ads are condescending and basically saying that either I am not good enough, or my car is not good enough.
Perhaps I've just had a Lexus overload the past couple days.
I'll cool down and read your review in a day or two. Hopefully you don't take this the wrong way because I genuinely do enjoy reading your work.

I agree that the comments need to be open so that Lexus can get some sort of feedback and then tailor their ads to appeal more to us.
I know that the ads are a necessary evil, but they've just crossed the line in my opinion.

Ubel just said that the comments are open for the most recent ad.
You should go speak your mind right now!

You won't get ads on Jalopnik if you use the Adblock plus addon for Firefox/Chrome.

Even the posts they make that say "Sponsored by Lexus"?

Thank jeebus. I'm at work right now and still too annoyed to form a well thought out reason as to why I don't like the ads. I'll do it when I get home haha

Targeted, programatic ad serving is a mysterious and fascinating thing. It's not coincidence that you saw these ads. But it's all automated. Go to Neiman Marcus's site or Ralph Lauren and you'll suddenly see a bunch of NM, RL and their competition on all sorts of websites.

It doesn't remove featured posts, but I get ZERO ads otherwise. No sidebar ads, no popup ads, etc. Bonus: No more youtube ads (except on Chrome, for whatever reason Adblock plus stopped blocking youtube ads on Chrome). I can't recommend this plugin enough.

What really bugs me about the Lexus ads is that they pretend like all of their cars appeal to enthusiasts when the only recent cars that did are:
LFA - no one can actually afford one and they were all leased out or something anyhow
IS-F - nice car but too expensive for most people and doesn't come with the option of a stick or DCT

Adblock Plus started allowing "non-intrusive" advertising by default a few months back. I think Youtube ads fall into that catergory. You can turn those off by going to the options and then unchecking "Allow some non-intrusive advertising" box

There is adblock and adblock plus.
adblock (non-plus) from "getadblock" remove more ads. I have never seen those sponsored post before. I turned it off and saw them.

No worries. Keep in mind I did post that the Mercedes CLA45 is the best car I've driven in two years:
http://dougdemuro.jalopnik.com/the-mercedes-c…
And no one accused me of anything there! Guess the timing was just bad this time...

I like how they mention being shaken awake by the engine. Unless something has changed, Lexus don't shake with power and that's actually supposed to be a feature.
